Peanuts were introduced to Ontario in the 1980s and are only grown in the southerly part of the province. In the 1980s and 90s the tobacco industry took a huge hit because of societal change in smoking habits and government policies. The sandy soil in this part of Ontario is perfect and the climate is warm enough.
