Back in 1930 a series of concrete monuments were created and placed at the major roads leading into Polk County welcoming visitors and proclaiming it as the "Citrus Center." Over the years many of the monuments have been lost to progress. However three remain in the state.
According to Roadside America this is one of the last remaining monuments and as such it has been designated as Citrus Center Monument #3.
Located at the intersection of US 92 and County Line Road between Lakeland and Plant City on the southwest corner of the intersection is the monument. It is situated between the railroad tracks and US 92 and is difficult to find due to a large electrical box. It is in need of some TLC and has been moved from its original location about 15 feet south when US 92 was widened to 4 lanes.
WARNING!!!
THIS IS A VERY BUSY AND DANGEROUS INTERSECTION. DO NOT STOP OR PULL OFF THE ROAD HERE.
There is a safe area to park just south of the monument off of County Line Road. Coordinates for parking are: North 28 degrees 01.572 minutes / West 82 degrees 03.361 minutes. After you safely park here you can walk up along the edge of the right of way to the monument. Please still use caution.
