Leven en werk
Piet Slegers ontving zijn opleiding aan de kunstacademie van Arnhem en was sinds 1947 gevestigd als vrij kunstenaar. Slegers maakte vooral werken voor de openbare ruimte en is bekend geworden als land art- en omgevingskunstenaar. Zijn bekendste werk is het vijf hectare grote project Aardzee uit 1982, dicht bij Zeewolde in de provincie Flevoland. In 2011 werd aan hem de Wilhelminaring toegekend. Hij woonde en werkte in het Gelderse Velp. Daar overleed hij op 92-jarige leeftijd.
Zonneproject
In 1979 presenteerde Slegers tijdens de expositie Nederlandse beeldhouwkunst bij de Nederlandse ambassade in de toenmalige Duitse hoofdstad Bonn zijn Landschaps-Zonneproject. Het kunstwerk werd nog datzelfde jaar opgesteld in het beeldenpark van het Kröller-Müller Museum in Otterlo. Aankoop van het object volgde, bijna 10 jaar later, in 1988. In 2005 werd aan het museum nog een tweede, veel ouder, werk van Slegers overgedragen door het Instituut Collectie Nederland: Everzwijn. Dit is een vroeg, expressief realistisch werk uit 1958. "

Life and work
Piet Slegers received his training at the art academy of Arnhem and has been established as a freelance artist since 1947. Slegers mainly made works for the public space and has become known as a land art and environmental artist. His best-known work is the five-hectare Aardzee project from 1982, close to Zeewolde in the province of Flevoland. In 2011 he was awarded the Wilhelminaring. He lived and worked in the Gelderse Velp. There he died at the age of 92.
Solar project
In 1979 Slegers presented his Landscape Solar Project during the Dutch sculpture exhibition at the Dutch Embassy in the then German capital Bonn. The work of art was exhibited that same year in the sculpture park of the Kröller-Müller Museum in Otterlo. The purchase of the object followed, almost 10 years later, in 1988. In 2005, a second, much older work by Slegers was transferred to the museum by the Netherlands Institute for Cultural Heritage (Instituut Collectie Nederland): Wild Boar. This is an early, expressive realistic work from 1958. "
