This website was created to increase awareness about the meaning of the AKU fountain. The AKU fountain was donated by the Algemene Kunstzijde Unie (AKU) to the citizens of Arnhem in 1961 as the crowning glory of the Reconstruction Period and was designed by architect Henk Brouwer and artist Shinkichi Tajiri.
In 2017 the AKU monument as a whole (basin, column with sculpture by Tajiri and pergola) was awarded the status of National Monument.
By refurbishing the whole and bringing back the disappeared elements and greenery, the fountain can once again become the dazzling centre of a Yellow Rider's Square for new residents and entrepreneurs, new businesses and restaurant owners.
Do you agree that Arnhem should (maintain) this beautiful monument? Then sign the petition on this website!
