This park is named in commemoration of the dedication and achievements of

Syd and Verna Cotton

In recognition of their diverse contributions to Navan and the former Township of Cumberland. Verna, a founding member of the Cumberland and Township historical society, worked to uncover and preserve local history with the Tweedsmuir Histories. Syd greatly supported recreational sports and local agriculture, and also helped to found the annual Navan Fair. The Cotton's held executive and volunteer positions with the Navan's Women's Institute, the Cumberland Township Agricultural Society and St. Mary's Anglican Church. Their extensive community involvement has had a positive and lasting impact on the City of Ottawa.

En reconnaissance de leurs contributions diverses à Navan et à l’ancien canton de Cumberland. Verna, membre fondatrice de la Société historique du Canton de Cumberland, a oeuvré à la découverte et à la préservation des histoires Tweedsmuir. Quant à Syd, il a ardemment soutenu les sports récréatifs et l’agriculture locale, tout en participant à la fondation de la foire annuelle de Navan. M. et Mme Cotton ont tous deux occupé des postes de direction et de bénévolat au sein du Navan Woman’s Institute, de la Société agricole du canton de Cumberland et de l’Église anglicane St. Mary’s. Grâce à leur grande implication dans la communauté, ils ont exercé une influence positive et durable sur la ville d’Ottawa.
