ANWB Monument Plaque, with number 35226/001, reads:
The church building is one of the oldest churches in Drenthe and was dedicated to Sint Pancratius before the Reformation. It finds its origin in the 9th century. In the following centuries, the wooden church gave way to a tuff-stone Romanesque church with a freestanding tower. In the 14th century the closed choir was replaced by the current gothic polygonal choir. Two centuries later, the side aisles followed, which enclosed the tower and gave the building its current shape. The lightning strike destroyed the building in 1759. The memorial stone above the double doors (south facade) is a reminder of this event. The church was restored in 1959.
The Van Oeckelen organ in the church dates from 1882.
