Frederick Henry Henshaw was born in Harborne in 1807. He was the pupil of Joseph Vincent Barber and specialised in rural landscapes, particularly English woodland. He was a member of the Birmingham Society of Arts, joining at the age of nineteen. He was the honorary secretary of the society between 1842 and 1847, being honorary treasurer and trustee until his death in 1891. Between 1829 and 1864 Henshaw exhibited at the Royal Academy.
