De Vredepaal is de belangrijkste van een aantal grenspalen die in 1716 werden geplaatst om het grensconflict tussen Pruisisch Opper-Gelre en het tot de Republiek der Zeven Verenigde Nederlanden behorende Brabant tot een einde te brengen. Deze paal stond daar waar het huidige Defensiekanaal en het Afleidingskanaal bij elkaar komen op een hoekpunt van de grens van de huidige provincies Noord-Brabant en Limburg.

The Peace Pole is the most important of a number of border posts that were placed in 1716 to end the border conflict between Prussian Upper Gelre and Brabant belonging to the Republic of the Seven United Netherlands. This pole stood where the current Defense Channel and the Diversion Channel come together at a corner of the border of the current provinces of Noord-Brabant and Limburg.
