When the Spandau Citadel was built in 1559, it was one of the most heavily fortified structures in Europe. At its peak, the fortress hosted hundred of soldiers and all their needs were met by small factories and shops inside the fortification.
The Feldschmiede (German for field forge) is located at the northern side of the fortress. Unfortunately, when we visited it in 2018, its condition was somewhat desolate, but a huge renovation of the fortress is still ongoing.
