Wenn man durch die Andernacher Altstadt spaziert, sollte man auf keinen Fall versäumen, am historischen Rathaus in das kurze Künstersgäßchen einzubiegen. Vor der Nr. 3, einem schmalen Jugendstilhaus, zeigen die steinerne Skulptur eines Lesers und das Ladenschild mit der Aufschrift „Kleines Antiquariat Jona“, was sich hinter der schön gestalteten Fassade verbirgt.
Wer durch die fröhlich klingelnde, dunkelrot gestrichene Tür eintritt, wird von der Besitzerin Frau Doris Jonas und ihren ehrenamtlichen Helferinnen freundlich eingeladen, zu stöbern, zu schmökern und – natürlich auch – günstig Bücher zu kaufen. In dem gemütlichen Raum findet man Unterhaltungsliteratur, Sachbücher, Bildbände, Lyrik, Biographien, darunter manche Rarität oder Kostbarkeit. Eine Treppe führt in den ersten Stock, wo die Regale vor allem mit englischsprachigen Romanen und Krimis, aber auch Kinderbüchern und Fachbüchern gefüllt sind.
Das Lager „Büchermarkt“ in der Breite Str. 15 beherbergt noch viele weitere Sparten, die hier keinen Platz finden. Frau Jonas und ihre Damen sind gerne behilflich und freuen sich über Gespräche mit Besuchern.
Der Laden bietet auch ein Forum für Lesungen. So las hier in der Andernacher Kulturnacht Gernot Jonas, Übersetzer des jiddischen Schriftstellers Scholem Alejchem, aus dessen Geschichten. Der Ort hat Charme.
Aber das Kleine Antiquariat ist ohnehin ein ganz besonderer Secondhand Bookshop. Die Idee dazu kam Frau Jonas, als sie bei einem Englandaufenthalt die Oxfamläden kennenlernte. Deren Erträge kommen sozialen Projekten zu, die Mitarbeiter arbeiten ehrenamtlich. Nach diesem Vorbild gründete sie vor gut zwanzig Jahren ihren Laden und kann damit zwei Anliegen vereinbaren: zum einen die Unterstützung von Amnesty International, UNICEF und Greenpeace und zum anderen einen Beitrag zu leisten zur Nachhaltigkeit, indem aussortierte, gespendete Bücher vor dem Altpapiercontainer bewahrt werden und neue Leser finden. Ohne ihre Liebe zu Büchern wäre das kleine Unternehmen natürlich nicht denkbar.
So ist das Kleine Antiquariat Jona eine Bereicherung für Andernach, die Stadt, die dieses Jahr den Zeit-Wissen-Preis „Mut zur Nachhaltigkeit“ erhalten hat, und eine Attraktion für Einheimische und Touristen.
