Organized in 1965 as the Clinton Little Theatre, this players group was started by five enthusiastic patrons, with little to no funding. They scrounged to find actors, and rehearsed in various places around town, some of the locations not too classy. They had their first performance in 1966 - Arthur Miller's All My Sons. The meager crew served not only as actors, but builders, painters, prop and costume-finders, stage crews and lighting techs, but they were off and running.
By 1968, they had included members from surrounding towns, and became a member of the Oklahoma Community Theater Association. They alsio offered a yearly $500 scholarship. In 1970, they put on their first musical. A big step came in 1976, the they remodeled their current location, which was formerly a pig auction house. The WPA-constructed auction building was re-purposed with bleacher seating along the sides and a center stage which was formerly the pig auction floor (Profile arrangement). There is no outside signage for the theater.
The group puts on five shows each season, plus a summer children's program and production. They average an audience of 600 to 1000, with 600 season ticket holders. Productions are held on Friday and Saturday at 7:30 and Sunday at 2:00. Adult tickets are $12.00, with Student I.D. $10.00 and Children $8.00. The Playhouse gratefully accept donations.
