There are two lines of stelae outside the Olympic Stadium in Berlin. The stelae on the southern side show die Names of all German Olympic Gold medal winners between 1896 and 1936, when Berlin was the host of the Olympic Games. There is one stele for each Olympic event, showing the year , the city and the names of the German winners on the front and a relief of an Olympic sport on the wider side.
On the northern side, there are stelae for all German Winners from 1952 until the present. Originally, only the West-German winners were listed. After German reunification in 1989, additional stelae listing East German winners for the years 1964 - 1988 were added.
The reliefs are made of shell limestone. The artists were:
