Isaac Newton (1642 - 1727) was a pre-eminent scientist in his day who carried out many experiments.
When experimenting with sunlight passing through a prism, he realised that light is in fact made up of many colours.
This graffiti illustrates this effect and shows his name above and to the side of the diagram.
The graffiti is on the side of bridge 113A that crosses the Trent and Mersey Canal and is visible from the canal tow path.
