Tour aux Chartes. Témoin de l’ancien château comtal, tour (sud) du front ouest de l’enceinte principale. Vraisemblablement ajoutée dans la 2e moitié du 13e siècle ou au début du 14e siècle à la courtine primitive de la fin du 11e siècle ou du 12e siècle, puissante construction circulaire talutée en grès et calcaire, percée d’archères. Rabaissement de la partie sommitale par les Hollandais entre 1816 et 1827, et percements des baies existantes à partir de 1856.
Getuige van het voormalige graafschapskasteel, toren (in het zuiden) van de westelijke voorkant van de hoofdomheining. Waarschijnlijk toegevoegd in de 2de helft van de 13de eeuw of aan het begin van de 14de eeuw aan de primitieve gordijngevel van de late 11de of 12de eeuw, een krachtige ronde constructie van zandsteen en kalksteen, doorboord met boogschutters. Tussen 1816 en 1827 hebben de Nederlanders het topgedeelte verlaagd en vanaf 1856 zijn de bestaande baaien geboord.
Witness of the former county castle, tower (south) of the western front of the main enclosure. Probably added in the 2nd half of the 13th century or at the beginning of the 14th century to the primitive curtain wall of the late 11th or 12th century, a powerful circular construction made of sandstone and limestone, pierced with archers. The Dutch lowered the summit part between 1816 and 1827, and the existing bays were drilled from 1856.
