Originally known as the Everett Events Center, the opening of the arena coincided with the first game of the Everett Silvertips, a new expansion franchise in the
Western Hockey League (WHL). Since opening in 2003, the arena has also hosted professional ice skating, lacrosse, indoor football, and semi-professional basketball. In 2019, the Angel of the Winds Arena is also the home of the
Tilted Thunder Rail Birds roller derby team.
The naming rights for the Angel of the Winds Arena were purchased in 2007 by the Stillaguamish Tribe of Indians of Washington. In addition to the 10,000-seat arena, the complex also includes the three-storey Edward D. Hansen Conference Center, the Community Ice Rink, the Silvertips Team Store and the Arena Grill.
The WHL team gets its name Silvertips from the word often used to describe some grizzly bears. I am grateful to my friend Forrest for assistance with the photography.
