Located on the second floor of the Seminole Inn is the "Seminole Gallery". Painted on the walls of two hallways in the East Wing is a series of murals depicting the history of the Seminole People. Each mural gives a brief description with historical content. There are seven individual murals in the first part of the hallway with an additional seven more in adjoining hallway for a total of 14 individual murals. Each mural has historical information above it describing the period of history it represents.
Historical descriptions of murals:
Right side of hallways, in order:
* Late 1700 Seminoles migrate to Florida.
* 1804 Osceola born in Tallahassee GA. moves to Florida with mother in 1814.
* 1817-1819 First Seminole War - Andrew Jackson's army destroys crops, steals livestock, and destroys negro forts in The Apalachicola and Suwannee River regions.
* 1824 Fort Brooke established as one of the United States Government forts charged with watching over "problems" between Seminoles and white settlers.
* 1830's United States Fovernment decides removal of all Indians in Florida to the Indian territory in the west (present day Okalahoma) was the best solution to continued conflict between Seminoles and white settlers. In 1834, 3,824 Indians were removed west.
* 1837 Osceola captured under a false flag of truce.
* 1838 Osceola dies of illness at Fort Moultrie, SC.
* 1842 Second Seminole war ends 4,420 Seminoles surrendered and deported west.
* 1855 - 1858 Third Seminole war called the Billy Bowlegs war only 300 Seminoles remained in Florida mostly in the Everglades.
* 1858 Seminoles flee to Indiantown and settled.
* 1923 Betty Mae Jumper is born in Indiantown, later elected chief of the Seminoles.
* 1926 The Seminole Inn is built.
*1927 Betty Mae Jumper's family, the "Tiger Family" is the last Seminoles to leave Indiantown for the Dania Reservation. She was four years old.
* 1928 Opening of the Tamiami Trail, which cuts through the Everglades. Once hidden Seminole villages become accessible to tourists and developers.
* 1930 First state reservation, consisting of 99,200 acres of forbidding wilderness in the Ten Thousand Islands region of Florida is established.
* 1934 Big Cypress Reservation - 104,800 acres of swamp and marsh is set aside, more than half was taken back by the government for a drainage project.
* 1957 Seminole Tribe of Florida incorporated.
* 1962 Miccosukee tribe of Florida incorporated.
* Betty Mae Jumper born in Indiantown elected FIRST woman Seminole Chief.
* Tampa Seminole Reservation founded.
