About Mig-23
The Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-23 (NATO reporting name: Flogger) is a variable-geometry fighter aircraft, designed by the Mikoyan-Gurevich design bureau in the Soviet Union. It is a third-generation jet fighter, along with similar Soviet fighters such as the MiG-25 "Foxbat" and Su-15 "Flagon". It was the first Soviet fighter to field a look-down/shoot-down radar and one of the first to be armed with beyond visual range missiles. Production started in 1970 and reached large numbers with over 5,000 aircraft built. Today the MiG-23 remains in limited service with some export customers.

MiG-23UB ("Flogger-C") Very similar to MiG-23U except that the Tumansky R-29 turbojet engine replaced the older R-27 installed in the MiG-23U. Production continued until 1985 (for the export variant). A total of 769 examples were built, including conversions from the MiG-23U.

V nocních hodinách dne 27.ledna 1992 došlo u 28.sbolp k letecké katastrofe letounu Mig-23 UB trupového císla 7721. Pilot 3.roje 1.stíhací bombardovací letky (sbolt) npor.Borek Chmelík provádel na této cvicne bojové verzi letounu Mig-23 vývozní let podle zdvojených prístroju. Instruktora mu v zadní kabine letounu delal velitel 1.sbolt pplk.František Materna. Z neznámých duvodu narazil letoun v 18 hodin 13 minut do zeme 1,5km severne obce Korouhev. Oba letci pri nárazu letounu zahynuli.

Pokud je nám známo tak prez usilovné vyšetrování, pri kterém byly zkoumány trosky letounu, jeho príprava na let a údržba, zpusob výcviku posádky, se presnou prícinu této letecké katastrofy nikdy stanovit nepodarilo. Vyšetrovací komise stanovila dve hypotézy, jednou byla technická závada a druhou chyba posádky. Ani pro jednu však nebylo nalezeno dost objektivních dukazu aby bylo prícinu možno stanovit. Pokud by nekdo k této události mel nejaké doplnující údaje budeme samozrejme rádi.

V míste katastrofy severne obce Korouhev stojí pomnícek pripomínající tuto leteckou katastrofu. Jména techto dvou mladých letcu jsou uvedena i na pomníku letcu na letecké základne Cáslav.
