Viewpoint Montaña de Arucas

The special feature of this natural viewing platform is its location on the crater of the former volcano Montaña de Arucas. The pyroclastic volcanic cone, 412 meters high and about 300,000 years old, had a flat, round crater at its top. In the 1950s, the crater was filled to accommodate the magnificent Miradores and a restaurant. The idea was inspired by Manuel Fraga Iribarne, the then Minister of Tourism of the Franco regime. He advised the owner of the area, the Marquis of Arucas, to use the mountain for tourist purposes and to avoid expropriation.

The viewing platform can be reached by car and offers a wonderful view of the listed old town of Arucas.
