Historical Plaque Text:

This property has been placed on the national register of historic places. In 1903, Rev. Benjamin Andrew Rogers had this vernacular, Queen Anne style home constructed to provide income for his daughter, Susan, the year she became the young widow of Joseph Arthur Tempest, known most notably as architect for Christ Church, Houston, Texas in 1893.

On May 29, 1895 Rev. Rogers founded St. Stephens Episcopal Mission, which was the first organized, non-denominational religious service held in Houston Heights. Rev. Rogers served the Protestant Episcopal Church for forty-one years as Rector and thirty-three years as a member of the Diocesan Council, which upon his death in 1904, paid tribute to Rev. Rogers by saying, "no one has done more towards the framing of our Code of Canons than he."
