FANT K027, KIA

The people of Caddo County honor the service of all U.S. military working dog teams by acknowledging one specific death by hostile fire during the Vietnam War. The German Shepherd scout dog, Fant K027 was killed by small arms fire October 22, 1970 on night defensive perimeter duty while temporarily attached to the 3rd Platoon, Company A, 2nd Battalion, 327th Infantry.

Pictured above with his handler, John Pinezaddley of Anadarko, Ok., Fant K027 was trained to protect our soldiers from ambushes, tripwires, booby-trap/explosives, and enemy personnel by providing early silent warning of any impending danger. The working dog team was a member of 47th IPSD (infantry platoon scout dogs), 2nd Brigade, 101st Airborne Division located in Phu Bai, Republic of Vietnam.
