Site Location: At the southern tip of a 120 acre island in the mouth of Machias Bay.

Directions to this site: Machiasport, ME - Take a tour boat.

Nearest City/Town: Machias, ME

Purpose: Marks the east entrance to Machias Bay.

Site established: 1822 by James Monroe

Built: 1824

Tower: 42 ft Cylindrical

Tower Material: Granite - Unpainted

Keeper's Quarters: 1824 - 1-1/2 Story Frame. Demolished

Oil House: 1893 - Brick - Demolished.

Fog House: 1884 - Brick - Blasts Every 15 Seconds.

Lens: 1855 - 4º Fresnel Lens 1974 - Automated.

Light Characteristics: 2 Flashes Every 20 Seconds

Notes: Maine's third oldest lighthouse.
Only lighthouse and one out-building remain.
This site was the scene of the first naval battle in the Revolutionary War.
