The memorial is located on a wall at the back of a small paved area on the corner of Ridgeway Street and Lord Street which has a central water feature and some seating where visitorS can rest and watch the fountain.
At the foot of the memorial are the words:
"no greater love has any man than to lay down his life for a friend"
The full inscription on the memorial is as follows:
"Fireman ROBERT ALBERT KENNA
was tragically killed on 4th September 1938
during firefighting operations
at Browns Menswear Shop,
North Quay, Douglas.
Station Officer HENRY BERTRAM KENNA (Bert)
who collapsed and dies on 22nd November 1965
during firefighting operations at
Express Radios, 4 Athol Street, Douglas.
Dear brother of Robert Kenna.
NO GREATER LOVE HAS ANY MAN THAN TO LAY DOWN HIS LIFE FOR A FRIEND."
