The turreted house of the sixteenth century was once an inn. The corbelled corner turret, topped with a pepper-pot roof, has a heart-shaped sun dial.
After the Hundred Years' War, Mortagne regains his prosperity and enriches himself. It was at this time, and in the following century, that many turreted houses and high gables were rebuilt. "

"Cadran en forme de coeur qui ressemble beaucoup à ceux de l'église de Courcerault et de l'église de Réveillon. Les lignes horaires sont tracées de 6h du matin à 6h du soir. Les heures indiquées par des chiffres romains sont inscrites dans un bandeau, des losanges indiquent les demi-heures. Au centre un écusson vide.
La maison à tourelle, du XVIème siècle, fût jadis une auberge. La tourelle d'angle en encorbellement, coiffée d'un toit en poivrière, présente un cadran solaire cordiforme.
Après la guerre de Cent ans, Mortagne retrouve sa prospérité et s'enrichit. C'est à cette époque, et au siècle suivant, que furent rebâties de nombreuses maisons à tourelles et hauts pignons."
