To celebrate the birth of Princess Beatrix (31 01-1938) also in Hoorn immortalize was on February 1, 1938 the now as "The Beatrix Boom" reputable non fruit-bearing, off white flowering chestnut tree planted by the Board of the Orange County (then party committee) and the mayor of Heerde.

In January 2009 it was announced (following an order of the municipality Heerde conducted research) that the tree was affected by the oyster mushroom. This fungus had gained access to the trunk from damage to the tree because of a cut branch reason. The research indicated that the disease (eventually) risk of fracture was very plausible. Partly because the tree in a dangerous place was was seen for safety canopy of the tree as the only option and there came an end to your Beatrix Tree after 71 years.

To less risk that a new tree is selected may be affected by contamination to another tree, namely a red beech.
