This monument is dedicated to the 27th Missouri Infantry Regiment in recognition of their service during the Battle of Missionary Ridge, fought November 25, 1863. It indicates their position on Nov. 23, 1863. This Battle was part of the Chattanooga Campaign and is preserved and maintained as part of the Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park.

Marker contributes to nat'l significance of park under NR Criterion A because it represents the national movement among veterans & related groups to commemorate Civil War battlefields. This was the first U.S. national military park.

A simple 15" x 15" x 3' marble shaft with a slanting inscribed top marking unit's position during the battle, November 25, 1863.
