The current dam was constructed in 1906 for the purpose of electrical power generation. The dam is about 20 feet tall and about 1400 feet long. The site has also been the location of previous dams for woolen mill and lumber mill purposes, including a timber dam that stretched across the river just upstream of the current dam.
