Chewelah is a small, rural community 45 miles north of Spokane.
The town of Chewelah, which actually calls itself the
City of Chewelah, is another of the multitude of towns in northeast Washington built, at least in part, on mining, in this case mostly silver, lead and copper. For many years it also had a large brick factory and a granite quarry.
