One can see from the photos for WM1V50 (in Unoccupied Buildings, Shacks, and Cabins) that this school still had a roof back in 2007, and might have had a chance for restoration. However, by the time I first saw it in early 2013 the roof was gone and the building had been gutted.

It is a melancholy place now, surrounded by tall grass. One might nostalgize as to how many kids learned their reading, writing and arithmetic here. There are some photos of Independence School and its students: sometime between 1890 and 1940, 1918 to 1919, 1929 to 1930 (with a lot of information!), and a 2008 photo of the 1938 building showing that it lost the roof and everything between July 2007 and the 2008 photo.
