The First Congregation Church is a superb example of Gothic Revival architecture. It was modelled after the First Parish Church of Cambridge, MA. The church was organized as Uxbridge's puritan society in 1727. It as re-organized in 1833 when there was a split in the congregation's ideological beliefs. Prior to this split the society had 2 meetinghouses one built in 1727-1729 and the other in 1773. Both were on the present site. After the split the First Congregational Society bought additional land from the Capron Family. Support for the new church came from many of the Uxbridge's founding families, including the Bazaleel Taft and the Rogerson's. The church served as the site of town meetings until 1879 when the Town Hall was dedicated.
Of prominence is the front facade and tower. The facade consists of 2 lancet windows flanking the tower. The tower rose from a one storey base which contain double doors as an entryway. Above the entry was a large lancet window with ascented into the beltry and spire. In 1869, Willard Jusson gave a clock to the town with the stipulation in be placed in the steeple of the church. In 1878 and 1888 additional renovations were made, mainly to the interior of the church. Since 1888, the Church has remained unchanged.
