When visiting Annapolis, MD, in October 2012, I noticed at least two new pieces of public art that had a common basic look to them. Apparently the City of Annapolis' Art in Public Places Commission (AIPPC) initiated this Hatching the Arts in Annapolis project and local businesses have donated money to suppliment the cost of the art. Artists submitted applications to the AIPPC who then picked the "winners" from the submissions. The basic form for all the art works is a basic fiberglass form with an oblong shape, similar to a loppsided egg shell.
This featured public art display, titled "Chicken Little That Didn't Cross the Road," is the first of a scheduled dozen public art works. It appears to be that of a chick cracking out of its egg shell. But, the shell shows tire tracks across the shell portion and the chick figure has Xs for eyes, like the chick died in the accident. The blue sky and white clouds scene across the chick body reinforce the concept that the chicken lost its life as it was crossing the road.
The artist is JaH-HaHa. More exact, JaH-HaHa Collaborative Art. This is the artistic company made by business partners Jeff Alan Huntington and Jimi Davies.
The art is located in an empty lot of grass at the corner of West Street and Colonial Avenue in Annapolis, MD. It is near the Lemongrass restaurant at 167 West Street, Annapolis, MD.
