A time capsule is buried on the grounds of the historic
Hatcher's Memorial Baptist Church in Brentsville, Virginia. The inscription reads:
THIS STONE COVERS A TIME CAPSULE BURIED DEC. 19, 1976, TO BE OPENED IN 99 YEARS ON JULY 4 2075, BY THE TRICENTENNIAL COMMITTEE OF THE HATCHER'S MEMORIAL BAPTIST CHURCH OR IF CHRIST COMES FIRST. HE SHALL PREVAIL. |
Howell and Fanny Wesley came up with the idea to bury a time capsule in conjunction with the American Bicentennial celebration. The 2' x 4' container was made by the Johnson Tool and Die Co. and was placed in the ground by the Sunday School. It contains news of the time, pictures and items provided by church members.
