In 1817 Henry Eddy published the First newspaper in Shawneetown by the appointment of President Monroe.

SIGMA DELTA CHI HISTORIC SITE
Here Henry Eddy and Allen Kimmel published the first issue of the Illinois Emigrant, Illinois' second newspaper, in June 1818
NOTE: the spelling differences on the two markers. college one from 1976, the wood one is much older. Most web sites I have visited show the newer spelling "Emigrant".
