Kirby Cove is part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area.
A steep, mile-long trail leads down to Kirby Cove, a course-sand beach with bluffs located west of the Golden Gate Bridge. It has a most dramatic setting, just outside the Golden Gate entrance, with the towers of the Golden Gate Bridge looming nearby.
Kirby Cove offers one of the four campgrounds available in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. Campsites are available for use only by prior reservation but anyone can walk down the road to enjoy the vistas and picnic on the bluffs or beach.
Four sites are available, each with a maximum capacity of ten people. Parking is restricted to three cars per site, within 100 yards of the campsites. Pit toilets, BBQ-pits, picnic tables, and fire rings are available, but there's no water for drinking and hygiene.
Campground - $25/Night; Picnic Area - $35/Day
