San Francisco is covered with outdoor stairways on its hillsides. 27th Street between Castro Street and Noe Street takes about an 75 foot drop in a short distance, too steep for cars. At this point a stairway connects the eastern and western sections of 27th street.

A one-way, U-shaped section of 27th street leads to the top of the stairway at the western end. At the top of the stairway there is a sweeping view looking east toward downtown San Francisco.

From the center to the right, San Francisco's three tallest buildings, the Transamerica Pyramid, the former Bank of America Building and Tweezer Towers can be identified.

Coordinates are given for the bottom of the stairway near 27th Street, where parking can be found on Noe Street. Parking is much harder to find near the stairway top. The stairway runs alongside the building at 398 Noe Street.

The handrail at the top of the stairway contains the remnants of a Yellow Arrow location.
