Welcome to Carlsbad Cavern.

Covering an area of 8.2 acres, the Big Room in Carlsberg Cavern is the largest cave in North America and has very well deserved to be a National Park. But now, here is a problem:
The natural entrance to the cave requires a strenuous one-hour hike - not everybody's cup of tea. And one of the requirements of National Parks is to be wheelchair accessible. The solution: An elevator taking you down right to the largest room in the cave. At the exit, there is a gift store, restrooms and a picnic area, everything you'd expect from a National Park, only it is 900 ft below the surface!

There are plenty of (guided) spelunking opportunities for the adventurous, but the main attraction, the self guided loop through the Big Room is paved and largely wheelchair accessible.
