[FR] "Fondé en 1856, le Carmel actuel occupe l'extrémité du coteau escarpé sur lequel se trouvait l'ancienne église Saint Michel ; seul un beau linteau en batière subsiste, portant une intéressante inscription latine du XIIe siècle. (pour le découvrir, sonnez au Carmel).

Lors de l'installation au Dorat, en 1572, du "Siège Principal de la

Sénéchaussée de la Basse-Marche", cette ancienne église servit de prétoire du Tribunal jusqu'à la Révolution, soit pendant plus de 200 ans.

En face, séparés par la "Petite Place du Palais", se trouvent les vestiges des prisons dont une partie était encore en service dans les années 1920. Deux fenêtres grillées et une cellule portant des graffitis de prisonniers du XVIIIè siècle, en rappellent le souvenir.

A proximité, l'imposant hôtel du Lieutenant Particulier Jean du Chalard, avec sa haute toiture, ses lucarnes en pierre de granit et sa porte monumentale (à l'intérieur de la cour). C'est un bel exemple de demeure des magistrats de la Sénéchaussée des XVIe et XVIle siècles."

Opposite, separated by the "Petite Place du Palais", are the remains of the prisons, some of which were still in use in the 1920s. Two burnt-out windows and a cell bearing graffiti from 18th-century prisoners recall the past.

Nearby, the imposing mansion of Lieutenant Particulier Jean du Chalard, with its high roof, granite stone dormers and monumental door (inside the courtyard). It's a fine example of a 16th- and 16th-century Sénéchaussée magistrate's residence."
