"It is called Pont de Cour, sometimes spelled Cour, Court or even Couz. This word comes from the Low Latin curtis, that is to say 'farmyard' or 'enclosure comprising house and garden, tenure'. which would be quite logical since the priors had a barn, two mills, a beater on the edge of the Arve, thus justifying the name of our bridge. The local residents and the community of Chamonix have maintained this bridge since the 15th century, rebuilding it during each deterioration and in the same place. The bridge will be refurbished in 1832, then built in stone in 1880, and widened again to its current extent in the 1970s.

Recently, a wide metal barrier with vertical bars and reduced meshes has been the delight of lovers hanging their padlocks, proof of their feeling for each other."
