EN: "In the middle of this is this three-storey building built in the 16th century during the reign of D. Sebastião, for the exercise of justice in this town.
Simple, sober and austere, it is made of granite masonry. It is topped by a small bell-tower on the left. The building's openings do not present any decorative elements, except for the royal coat of arms attributed to D. Sebastião between the windows on the second and third floors.
On the ground floor there was no door, since this was the jail, so the entrance was on the left side, preceded by a perfect arch."
