The cenotaph is made of granite, standing between three and four feet in height, with the emblem of the United States Army at the top. Below, in a box, is:

PFC C.R.
DeWeese
38687873
Co. B 309
Inf. APO 78

Sept. 27, 1918
Apr. 6, 1945

PFC DeWeese is buried in the Netherlands American Cemetery, where, interestingly, his headstone reads "Charley" and not the more formal "Charles." There's not much to be found about his fate, other than that he was Killed in Action and awarded a Purple Heart, but the Honor States website has a few tidbits. He hailed from Lamkin in Comanche County, a few miles south of here, and entered the service in 1944 at Fort Wolters in Mineral Wells. Sadly, he never knew his son, Jimmy, who was born on the day his father died.
