One of several old pieces of equipment displayed in downtown Salmo is this little Caterpillar model Twenty. While not at the centre of this Lucky 7, we've chosen to make it the focus.

Across Main Street from the venerable old Salmo Hotel, and behind the World's Largest Penny, are several pieces of machinery once used locally in the forestry and mining industries, including this Cat Twenty.

Built by Caterpillar from 1927 to 1931, the Twenty was offered as both an Agricultural Crawler tractor and an Industrial Crawler. While the Agricultural model was painted gray, some yellow paint showing through the rust on this unit suggests that it was initially an Industrial model. Forestry being the major industry in the Salmo area, there's a good chance that this little Cat spend the majority of its working life lugging around big hunks of lumber. This Twenty is equipped with a rear winch, standard equipment on a logging cat.

Powered by a 4 cylinder gasoline engine, the Twenty was close to the smallest crawler manufactured by Caterpillar, only the Fifteen and the Ten being smaller. In 1931, the Twenty became the Twenty-Five following an increase in engine output. Following are some of the specifications of the Twenty.
