English: Cupmark stone in Busene on Møn. The stone was found in 1996 by digging drains and was about 40 cm below the ground surface. The stone is now located in a small facility to which there is public access.

In and around the Busene there are many relics from the past. On this stone are seen the traces of the religious and cultic acts that the people of the Bronze Age performed around 1700-500 BC. The round depressions - which here are also connected by chopped grooves, which create elongated arches and oval shapes - are called cupmarks and are a kind of petroglyphs. That is, characters and figures carved in stone.

Cupmarks are most often interpreted as fertility symbols and on this stone there are as many as 152 bowl signs, pits and gutters. Possibly the actual carving of the bowl signs has been a cultic act, in which sacrificial offerings were made to the higher powers during or after the act.

Cupmarks have been found on, among other things, rock surfaces, stone dolmens, burial chambers or - as in this case detached stones. They perform individually or in groups. Originally, the cup marks were not painted.
cupmark stones in the area - was found 400 meters from the current location. Perhaps there was a sacrificial site, a grave monument or something else that made this particular place be perceived as something special by the ancient people.

22 stones with cupmarks have been found on Møn. There is public access to four of these, which in addition to Busene are Stege church and Magleby church.
