Hottest, Driest, and Lowest National Park.
In this below-sea-level basin, steady drought and record summer heat make Death Valley a land of extremes. Yet, each extreme has a striking contrast. Towering peaks are frosted with winter snow. My wife and I visited at the end of June and the highest temperature reading we saw was 114°F. It was interesting to watch the temperature reading climb as we drove to lower and lower elevations.
We met a woman, of at least 70 years, at Zabriskie Point who chatted about coming to the park for many decades. She said she use to do a lot of camping in the park when she was young, but not in the summer.
