[EN] "In the parish of Chalandray, was, and still is, Notre-Dame church.
Part of this church already existed in the 18th century, it forms the apse. This part, as we can see on the spot, is remarkable for its construction. The base of the building is narrower than the top. The masonry is reinforced by external columns, the top of which is decorated with grinning heads.
In the 18th century, the parish priests had to declare the goods of their cure to satisfy the General Assembly of the Clergy of France of 12 Dec 1726. "
You will find in this church, above the war memorial, this little Virgin of Mercy.
"Pietà (pronounced: [pje'ta]), or Virgin of Mercy, is an artistic theme of iconography in sculpture and Christian painting; it represents the Virgin Mary in Mater Dolorosa, mother mourning her son, the Christ she holds on his knees at the time of the descent from the cross, after the crucifixion and before his burial. The oldest examples are found in Italy and Germany, especially within the tradition of the "Vesperbild" (de), images of devotion to the office of vespers. The scene of the Lamentation of Christ is, in turn, treated in a more ample way and represents, in addition to Christ and his Mother, the characters present at the foot of the Cross. "
