[EN] "In the parish of Chalandray, was, and still is, Notre-Dame church.
Part of this church already existed in the 18th century, it forms the apse. This part, as we can see on the spot, is remarkable for its construction. The base of the building is narrower than the top. The masonry is reinforced by external columns, the top of which is decorated with grinning heads.
In the 18th century, the parish priests had to declare the goods of their cure to satisfy the General Assembly of the Clergy of France of 12 Dec 1726. "
It is inside this church that you will find this pretty little statue of the Virgin Mary.
"Mary, Jewish daughter of Judea, is the mother of Jesus of Nazareth.
The Catholic and Orthodox Churches give an essential place to Mary, whom they call Mary of Nazareth, Holy Virgin, Virgin Mary, Our Lady (more often among French-speaking Catholics) or Mother of God (among Orthodox as among Catholics).
As with her son Jesus, it is difficult to write a biography of Mary. However, according to tradition and the overlaps that can be made in the Holy Scriptures, she is the only daughter of Joachim, descendant of David, and of Anne, descendant of Aaron. Mary is therefore from the royal and priestly household.
A large part of the historical traces are found in the apocryphal accounts, which often develop the elaborations present in the canonical texts of the New Testament, but which can also reconstruct a certain historical framework.
In the Catholic and Orthodox Churches, Mary is the object of a particular worship, superior to the simple worship rendered to saints and angels, called the worship of hyperdulia. This is one of the important points of divergence with Protestantism and the Reformed Churches.
For Catholics, Canon 1186 of the Code of Canon Law states that this is the veneration of the Blessed Mary, always a Virgin, established by Christ as the Mother of all men. "
