The text on the plaque reads as follows:
The first ingot of Canadian aluminum was cast in 1901 at this aluminum smelter, the oldest still in existence in North Anmerica. Industrial production at this complex on the Saint-Maurice River began for Canada a new era of heavy industry based on hydroelectric power, thus establishing the longstanding alliance between the hydroelectric and aluminum industries. The introduction of electrometallurgy into the Mauricie region triggered an unprecented industrial boom and new prosperity for the country.
