The Lynwood Gardens pond takes its name from Broom Field an old name for this area of Sheffield. The pond was designed and built in 2005 as a Sustainable Urban Drainage System (SUDS). The SUDS takes rain water from Park Crescent and surrounding roofs and channels it into the reedbed - this filters out pollutants like oil and petrol which are washed of from the roads. the water then flows to a smaller dipping pond before draining into the bog garden which is planted with native plants.
