Zur 1000. jährigen Ersterwähnung der Stadt Kronach erschien diese Sonderbriefmarke im Jahr 2003.

Kronach ist die Kreisstadt des oberfränkischen Landkreises Kronach und ein Mittelzentrum in Bayern. Die Stadt liegt am Fuße des Frankenwaldes, wo die Flüsse Haßlach, Kronach und Rodach zusammenfließen. Kronach ist die Geburtsstadt von Lucas Cranach d. Ä. und verfügt mit der Festung Rosenberg über eine der am besten erhaltenen Festungsanlagen Deutschlands. Das Stadtbild wird geprägt von der fast ganz erhaltenen Altstadt mit Sandstein- und Fachwerkhäusern, Stadtmauern, Toren, Türmen und Gewölbekellern. Kronach liegt an der Burgenstraße und an der Bier- und Burgenstraße.

Kronach is a town in Oberfranken, Bavaria, Germany, located in the Frankenwald area. It is the capital of the district Kronach.

Kronach is the birth town of Lucas Cranach the Elder and Maximilian von Welsch, as well as Johann Kaspar Zeuss and bishop Josef Stangl. The town is equipped with a nearly complete city-wall and Germany's biggest medieval fortress (Festung Rosenberg). The headquarters of German television and AV equipment manufacturer, Loewe, is located here but will be moved to Munich after a restructuring of the company.

The rivers Haßlach, Kronach and Rodach unite in Kronach.
