The department is in a relatively small building, with only two overhead doors, suggesting an equally small fire department. They are manned by a force of 20 firefighters, all volunteer.
The cast steel school bell was manufactured by the C.S. Bell Company of Hillsboro Ohio. The name tells us that it was made anytime between 1894 and 1970. The C.S. Bell Company operated under various names between 1875 and the 1970s, when it ceased making bells.
St. Ignatius Good Old Days Park consists of a large expanse of grassed area, a large picnic pavilion and an amphitheatre/bandshell. The amphitheatre has a roofed pavilion, enclosed on three sides, with slightly curved concrete seating set into a hillside facing it. It is used through the summer for concerts and other live performances.
The main portion of the Foster Funeral Home is one of the few buildings left standing from the era prior to the Reservation’s homesteading days. Built around 1890 for the doctor as provided by the Hellgate Treaty, it has served as a doctor’s office, as a residence for the head of the irrigation project next door, as a residence for merchants from the Beckwith Mercantile, a boarding house, an orphanage, a doctor's office again, over time from then it was a rental for many local families.
When one thinks of a mission, they generally think of a small wood frame or log church built in the wilderness to minister to the natives and the settlers. This mission is slightly different from one's preconceived notion. It is different both inside and out; inside in its cathedral like appointments and murals and outside in its sheer size. The renowned murals in this church were painted by Br. Joseph Carignan, S.J., the mission cook. In 1973, this mission was declared a National Historic Site.
