A bronze relief plaque at the entrance to the The Berlin Cathedral shows Martin Luther with some of his closest supporters, among then Philip Melanchthon.

Theologian Philip Melanchthon was Luther's closest collaborator. He was the intellectual leader of the Lutheran Reformation, and an influential designer of educational systems. As a reformer, he stands next to Luther and John Calvin. After Luther himself, he is considered the primary founder of Lutheranism.

Asteroid 7906 Melanchton, discovered on September 24, 1960 was named in his honor.
