EN: This statue of the Virgin Mary stands on a square next to the Fridolinsmünster in Bad Säckingen. The statue is about four meters high and is located under a shelter with back wall.

The statue was created in 1727 and was originally located on the façade of the cathedral between the two towers. Because of severe weather damage it had to be replaced by a copy. Since 1913, it stands at the present place, where there used to be a cemetery.

DE: Diese Marienstatue steht an einem Platz neben dem Fridolinsmünster von Bad Säckingen. Die Statue ist etwa vier Meter hoch und befindet sich und einem Schutzdach mit Rückwand.

Die Statue wurde 1727 erschaffen und befand sich ursprünglich an der Fassade des Münsters zwischen den beiden Türmen. Wegen starker Verwitterungsschäden musste sie durch eine Kopie ersetzt werden. Seit 1913 steht sie an ihrem heutigen Platz, wo sich früher ein Friedhof befand.

Maria: "Maria ist die im Neuen Testament genannte Mutter des Jesus von Nazaret. Sie lebte mit ihrem Mann Josef und weiteren Angehörigen in der Kleinstadt Nazaret in Galiläa. Maria wird im Christentum als Mutter Jesu Christi besonders verehrt und ist auch im Koran als jungfräuliche Mutter Jesu erwähnt.

Außerhalb der neutestamentlichen Quellen ist über die Eltern Jesu historisch nichts überliefert, da nach herrschender Meinung der Forschung alle späteren Quellen vom Neuen Testament abhängig sind.
